CSA Z462 Timeline

The following timeline outlines the evolution of CSA Z462:

2005

CSA Z460 Lockout Standard Technical Committee recommends that CSA implement a Workplace Electrical Safety Standard, and points to NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.  NFPA 70E is referenced in the final Standard issued.

Alberta Arc Flash Hazard Committee is established, over 400 voluntary members.  Attempting to share information with respect to NFPA 70E and to move to consistency in it's application.

CSA aware of NFPA 70E, but no commitment to address a Canadian Workplace Electrical Safety Standard.

December, CSA announces historic Memorandum of Understanding with NFPA to move to harmonizing Standards for North America.

2006

CSA announces that they will adapt/adopt NFAP 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace to a new CSA, National Standard of Canada, CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety.  A Project Manager is put into place and the Technical Committee is constituted in the through to September.

The first meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is held in Toronto, Ontario, before the 2nd Annual CSA/IAPA Workplace Electrical Safety Conference.

2007

The second meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is held in Calgary, Alberta, before the 15ht Annual IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop.

The third meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after the CSA 2006 AGM.

The fouth meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is held in Calgary, Alberta, before the 3rd Annual CSA/IAPA Workplace Electrical Safety Conference.

2008

The fifth meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is planned for March 2008 in Toronto, Ontario.

It is anticipated that a stakeholder review copy of CSA Z462 will be available in April/May, there will be a 60 day review cycle where comments can be submitted to CSA.

The sixth meeting of the CSA Z462 Technical Committee is planned for June 2008 in Calgary, Alberta following the CSA 2007 AGM.

The CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety Standard should be approved by the Technical Committee and submitted to CSA for final approvals by the summer of 2008.

Following the final approval process by CSA, the 1st Edition of CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety should be available in October/November 2008.
